Allen's Starfire Dahlia Tuber
Allen’s Starfire stands out with its spiky blooms and eye-catching fiery oranges and reds. Reliable, vigorous, and garden-worthy, it’s one we love growing year after year. Dramatic color variations occur as the temperatures swing.
Variety Details
Bloom Size: Medium (5-7”)
Form: Cactus
Color Story: Ember red with molten orange undertones; warm, fire-kissed petals that glow in sunlight
Best For: Fall bouquets, statement blooms
Vase Life: 4-7 days
Notes: It always reminds us of a bouquet worthy of the Mother of Dragons, and if we ever had to rename it a “Game of Thrones” reference would certainly be made.
🌱 Growing Info
Dahlias thrive in full sun and warm soil (above 50°F). Depending on how many you intend to plant you can either dig a trench or individual holes. Place tubers about 4-6” deep horizontally with the eye/sprout facing up (if visible) and cover lightly with soil. If potting up indoors first, you can plant with neck above the soil line so you can monitor sprouting. Avoid watering until shoots emerge to prevent rot. Once established, they’ll bloom nonstop until frost.
